An impromptu trip to North eastern Uganda turned out to be an unforgettable experience in the wild. We set off on Friday morning, had an overnight at Pakuba safari lodge in Murchinson falls national park . The next morning, we embarked on a seven hour journey through Gulu to Kitgum; the home of Kidepo valley national park.
Approaching the park, we saw loads of hills at a distance. A Picturesque back drop. Finally, we got to the park and our accommodation at Savanah lodge. Freshened up and set off for an evening game drive.
The savannah landscape is absolutely breathtaking and the view of the horizon is endless. There are two sections in the park based on the valley systems of the Kidepo and Narus rivers. We toured the Narus valley and spotted a variety of wildlife ie zebras, lions, jackals, buffalos, elephants and enormous bird species . On the game drive, you get the feeling of having the park all to yourself .
Kidepo offers a variety of accommodation options . Low to high end lodging facilities ie. UWA bandas, Savannah lodge, Apoka safari lodge , Apoka rest camp, Nga more wilderness camp etc
Top suggestions ; Travel in the dry season (September to March) and via road ; the route is scenic. The park is located in a remote area but its worth the distance .
A true hidden gem.
